"Bernard Lewis - perhaps the most distinguished Western expert on Islam - predicted tha Europe would be Islamic by the end of the century. The historian Bat Ye´or agreed. Indeed, she´s introduced a useful term to designate the geopgraphical entity that´s taking shape as the result of Europe´s Islamicizations: "Eurabia."

Anyone who doubts these prognostications need only look at the numbers. Today, in most of Western Europe, the Muslim share of the population is somewhere between 2 and 10 percent. In Sweden, Austria and the Netherlands, the figure approaches the high en of that range; in France, it´s 12 percent. A glance at the relative rates of reproduction suggests that this percentage will rise precipitously over the coming generation. Among native Western Europeans, the fertility rate ranges from 1.2 to 1.8 - well below the "replacement rate" of 2.1. This means that the native populations of these countries will decline considerably over the next generation, and the number of retired persons will approach the number of employed persons, causing an economic crisis. Meanwhile the number of Muslim will increase dramatically, partly through continued immigration and partly through reproduction/-/. Already, in most of Western Europe, 16 to 20 percent of the children are Muslims. Within a few years, every fifth or sixth young adult in Western Europe will be a Muslim; within a couple of generations, many countries will have Muslim majorities. Informed observers predict a coming "explosion" of fetching marriages that will take Europe beyond the point of no return.

The imams know this. "Muslims have a dream of living in an Islamic society," declared a Danisch Muslim leader in 2000. "This dream will surely be fulfilled in Denmark... We will eventually be a majority." A T-shirt popular among young Muslims in Stockholm reads: "2030 - then we take over." In many places in Europe, agitation for the transfer of soverignty has alreadt begun. In France, a public official met whit an imam at the edge of Roubaix´s Muslim district out of respect for his declaration of the neighbourhood as Islamic territory to which she had no right of access. In Britain, imams have pressed the government to officially designate certain areas of Bradford a being under Muslim, not British, law. In Denmark, Muslim leaders have sought the same kind of control over parts of Copenhagen. And, in Belgium, Muslims living in the Brussels neighbourhood of Sint-Jans-Molenbaek already view it not as part of Belgium but as an area under Islamic jurisdiction in wich Belgians are not welcome."
